Our Purpose
Every year, more and more
of our experience of the world comes through our personal
computers, mobile phones, personal digital assistants and
other information appliances. Their importance is underscored by
the growing number of attempts to intrude upon those appliances in
order to manipulate perceptions or steal.
Various makers of information appliances and their components have
begun to use cryptographic key pairs to thwart such intrusions. But it
is natural and expected that commercial enterprises might create closed
systems that thwart competitors or manipulate perceptions of
users.
UIPKI is an international organization that represents the public,
ensuring that the use of embedded key
processing systems makes those
appliances more
useful, secure and free of user manipulation. The International Union
for Private
Key Infrastructure fulfills this mission by
- Encouraging interoperability of embedded key processing systems
- Certifying the reliability of embedded
key processing systems
